To chane the emotion a photo portrays you can change things such as
1) The lighting: Lighting can be used to set different moods. Less lighting may be used to set a darker, more dull or negitive tone in a photo. Where as sunlight or bright lighting is often used to convey a happier tone.
2) The angle: Things photographed from below tend to make things look taller and perhaps more intimidating. Things photographed from above can make the pbject look smaller, less fierce or cute.
3) The object’s surroundings: The things placed around or behind the object can affect how you see the object. For example, if you saw a cat next to a giant angry dog you would see the cat as an innocent little kitty, but if you saw the same cat next to brutally massacred birds, the cat looks a little less defenseless and cute.
