Assignment 35 Pepon Osorio

     The Pepon Osorio piece I’ll be reflecting on is “Badge of Honor”: Fathers prison cell. This piece displays an empty jail cell from directly outside the bars. Through the bars you can see a projected picture of what is implied to be a father displayed on the inside wall of the prison cell.

     This piece was meant to symbolize the so many of us whose father was absent in their lives, either physically or mentally/spiritually. The prison cell is meant to represent something keeping a son or daughter from being with their father or something the father did to keep themselves from their child. I think Osorio chose to have the image of the father projected on the wall instead of physically in the cell to represent the complete absence of him, like there is no possibility to even visit him, because he is not really there.

Mood Assingment

The picture on the left has more even lighting and is brighter which I tried to use to convey a more comercial and meaningless tone, so in this photo the object is just a cosmetic product that could be used as an advertisement. (although the long dark shadows implies a more intimidating mood, with the lighting I had avalable I couldn’t help it, sorry.)

The picture on the right is dark and has more distinct shadows, conveying a darker tone. The environment and other objects the nail polish remover is around implies that it is being used maliciously for a poison.

Creative Thinking Blogpost

To chane the emotion a photo portrays you can change things such as

       1) The lighting: Lighting can be used to set different moods. Less lighting may be used to set a darker, more dull or negitive tone in a photo. Where as sunlight or bright lighting is often used to convey a happier tone.

      2) The angle: Things photographed from below tend to make things look taller and perhaps more intimidating. Things photographed from above can make the pbject look smaller, less fierce or cute.

      3) The object’s surroundings: The things placed around or behind the object can affect how you see the object. For example, if you saw a cat next to a giant angry dog you would see the cat as an innocent little kitty, but if you saw the same cat next to brutally massacred birds, the cat looks a little less defenseless and cute.
